Zine Template — Part III

Creating the page template will be an ultra simple process based off of the work done on the spread template.

First, delete the Fold Line layer. This template is for a single page, so we will have no fold interupting the page.

Second, we will shorten everything on the page to be 8-inches wide. Be sure that all layers are unlocked, and use the Direct Selection Tool to select everything on the right side of the page. Open the Move dialog box (Ctrl+Shift+M or Object » Transform » Move). Be sure that preview is selected, so you can see what is happenning. We are going to move the selected points 8-inches to the left (negative 8-inches).

Third, change the document size and recenter the artwork. Change the document size to 9-inched wide via the Document Set-up dialog (Ctrl+Alt+P). This will resize the page and succcessful throw all of your artwork off the page. (Rant: Why you cannot select something similiar to the Canvas Size dialog in Photoshop is beyond me.) To get the artwork back on the page, you will first need to reset your rulers to the page. Next, select all and using the Transform palette (with the lower left anchor selected change) set the XY anchors to zero and zero.

Three steps and now you can start designing for pages and spreads. Download the finished files below:
