Liberation Fonts
A new set of fonts has been released from an unlikely source — Red Hat, a linux distribution. They have released a set of mono, serif and sans-serif fonts that are intended to replace Courier, Times New Roman and Arial. They call this set Liberation and it can be downloaded for free from their website.
The font set was created by Ascender Corporation, who does a lot of font development for Microsoft. This makes the download from Red Hat even more interesting.
If the liberation goes well… maybe we will have a new default font option.
